What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is a low level fear. Anxiety often begins as stress and you are dealing with  the stress and something bumps the stress level up.  Anxiety is on a continuum. The person feels stressed and then one more stress is added and in many people that have a tendency to be nervous, that is the “straw that breaks the camels back”.  It is not sudden in its onset but can feel almost like a switch has been flipped.  Anxiety is debilitating because it creates a different pattern of thinking that paralyzes because it is fear.  Uncontrolled anxiety can become  panic attacks and phobic responses if left unchecked.

You can get rid of anxiety by changing your focus and how you think, because all of these feelings come from your thoughts.  Everything starts as a thought, you can’t do anything without a thought, and in fact people have 50,000 – 60,000  everyday. Obviously they are not actually noticing all of those thoughts and it’s the ones that are  under the radar the subconscious thoughts that create these feelings.  It usually  starts as  a fear or worry and those thoughts create tension and the person subconsciously changes the way they are breathing.  From that point the fight or flight response takes over and can quickly overwhelm the persons ability to get back in control.

Recently I had a lady who had a lot of anxiety and in fact was so anxious she couldn’t drive a car anymore because every time she was in the car there was nothing to distract her from driving. If she talked to someone on the phone she could drive – which is interesting but not very safe –  but her anxiety was coming from her thoughts, she started thinking that oh my god there is so much traffic and reinforcing the scary part about driving,  instead of telling herself that she has been driving for 20 years and of course that she is good at it so her thoughts had spiraled  to this negative level. By helping her shift these thoughts she was able to lower her anxiety and drive for the first time in 8 yrs.

This type of success in my experience takes only 21 days.  I work with the person  using hypnosis and NLP.  We meet 5 times during the 21 day period.  Each meeting incrementally  builds on the next.  The results feel natural,  your stress level is dropping and you are thinking differently about your major stressors.  You begin to feel more in control.  More confident, calm and capable.
